December 7, 2021 – WCASD Career Education Advisory Council – Please take the survey!

January 11, 2022 //  by Sherry Cockerham

Take the Partnership with WCASD: Interest Survey Here

Thank you for your consideration in partnering with WCASD for field trips, job shadows, and/or internships. We are so grateful, as are our students!

Below are brief descriptions of the potential programs in which you could participate. Please mark in the survey if you would like to schedule a meeting to discuss more details prior to indicating your interest. If you have any questions, please reach out to Heather Bratton (hbratton@wcasd.net) or Kelly McCreesh (kmccreesh@wcsad.net).

GUEST SPEAKERS: professional to visit a classroom and share information about their career (may include background on their education and experience that brought them to their current position, general information about their career, related-careers in their career field, advice for high school students on career exploration, etc.)

FIELD TRIPS: small-group visits to your business (can be flexible with numbers given your company’s Covid protocols); length of visit can be flexible, but would occur during school hours (approximately 7:30am-2:15pm); an opportunity for students to see the different types of careers in your industry; WCASD staff members would chaperone.

JOB SHADOWS: individual students shadowing a professional in your industry for the day (can also do half-days) in order to have a more intensive experience of a day in the life of someone who works in this career field; student would attend without a WCASD chaperone and therefore clearances are required (*see below).

INTERNSHIPS: the most intensive/immersive option; available to 12th grade students only; students would work as an intern 30-40 hours per week, unpaid, for 4 weeks starting in May; students would attend their internship instead of school; clearances are required (*see below).

***For job shadows and internships, the following clearances (current within 5 years) must be held by the individual supervising the event/program: PA State Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Criminal Background Check
